Fraud is a theft through deception and is the number one crime against seniors. You may not even be aware you have been defrauded.  The con artist will gain your trust take your money and give you little in return.  A con artist can be a man or a woman.

Seniors are targeted because:

  • Seniors often live alone or have more savings, assets or disposable income.
  • Seniors often don’t report being scammed, they may not realize and once they do, they may be embarrassed.
  • Seniors are often trusting.

A fraudster will seldom resort to threats or physical violence as they don’t want to draw attention to themselves with the police.  If they are unsuccessful with you, they will move on.  Your best defense is to be assertive in saying “No thank you, I’m not interested”.

Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!
